Mobile Apps: Simple Physics
I have a new venture on my plate. Developing an education program for elementary and middle school teachers that uses a mobile engineering app. Some preliminary research has brought to my attention a lof of cool apps for kids.
One app that has solid reviews from both online reviewers and friends is Simple Physics. It is an engineering game where you are challenged to build a structure that has size and bear loading requirements. In real world fashion you also have a limited budget. With a grid overlay and finger gestures you can create your structure quite rapidly. One neat feature is you can do quick stress test by tapping on a specific area. Once your design is complete, you launch the simulation to see if the structure lasts or not. I see this as a handy tool for both math and physics classrooms, grades 4 and up.
