Mouse Party: science and comics

Doing a throwback blog today. A few years ago when I taught psychology in Seattle, I ran a unit on the effects of drugs on the brain. To get students hooked on the topic I introduced them to Mouse Party, an interactive website designed by the University of Utah. The website has a slick design and is packed with solid research. You have to see it for your self, and I promise if you enjoy interactive websites and are curious about how a glass of wine impacts your neurons, you are going to dig this.

The site is also a great lead into the science and culture of addition. As a final project, I would ask students to make a comic strip illustrating risk factors, impact of drugs on the brain, and the social/health consequences of drug addiction. A colleague adopted this unit in his course, you can find some lesson materials here.
